One of the top fitness trends for 2010 that actually makes sense is "Functional Fitness".
This means training your body with movements that actually mimic real life situatations or "activities of daily living".
In this short but VERY impactful video, I talk about the most basic functional fitness move that you MUST incorporate into your everyday living or else suffer the eventual consequences of debilitating back pain, sciatica, and hip problems.
I have literally seen people die (one very recently) because of a back pain episode that caused horrible disability and depression.
So I honestly believe that this simple "hip hinge" move can literally save your life!

My mantra to all my clients and students is "More Green, Less Grain" because the bottom line is this…green food by its very nature is ANTI-INFLAMMATORY!
You CAN heal from serious degenerative disease as well as get rid of allergies, asthma, chronic pain, fatigue, colds, flu, bronchitis, and just about any dis-ease known to human kind with this powerful stuff!
Humor me and yourself for a week or so and eliminate all grains from your diet and replace those calories with a dark green leafy salad (NO ICEBERG, OK?).
Get some mixed greens and some romaine and go to town!
Another way to flood your cells with these intense anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory alkaline nutrients is to juice them or put them in a green smoothie.
Here's a quick recipe even your kids will like!
1 large green apple
5 to 10 pineapple chunks
BIG bunch of Kale or Spinach or mix of both
half an avocado
half a lemon
4 OR 5 ice cubes
fill with water to just about the top Blend THOROUGHLY!
Drink up and feel the POWER!!!! As your palate develops to really enjoy the taste of green food, you can cut back on the sweet stuff to lower the insulin response and you'll be AMAZED at the increased energy and vitality you feel!

The benefits of "earthing" are absolutely amazing!
I did a presentation on this about 6 months ago at the office and during my research, this is what I discovered about the benefits of actually getting your body connected with the earth:
1. Anti-Oxidants! That's right…when your body is exposed to toxins,gets rid of toxins, makes energy, fights off viruses, or makes hormones, it is breaking your body down and leaving behind an unpaired electron called a "free radical".
The free electrons that flood your body when you connect yourself to the earth go to work to neutralize those suckers and keep you from rotting like an apple (also known as AGING!)
2. Helps ground you and protect you from all the electromagnetic pollution you're exposed to everyday like cell phones, wireless internet, powerlines, etc.
3. When you're barefoot on the earth, you are also flooding your nervous system with "afferance" or input that does three things 1. blocks pain 2. relaxes tight muscles 3. increases coordination to the brain!
When you wear shoes, this crucial input is GONE! And paradoxically, you end up with more ankle sprains, hip and knee problems, and a greater likelihood of falling (and sometimes NOT being able to get back up!).
So take your shoes off, soak up some electrons from all those lightning strikes, improve your balance, and get back in tune with the NATURAL WAY!

As many of you may know, Core Wellness and the Louisville Area Raw Food Meetup Group hosted 100% raw food authors and celebrities for a 4 hour "Raw Food Transformation" talk this past Saturday.
We also hosted Matt and Angela in our home for 3 nights and got to be on their "The Raw Food World TV Show" 2 days in a row! I've posted the episodes below for your entertainment and education!
Only 1 or 2 of the 53 health seekers in attendance were close to 100% raw and most were there to investigate this philosophy as a way to reverse disease, lose weight, and reach a higher level of health consciousness.
And although I've thrown myself into learning as much as I can about the healing benefits of raw food and I had read Matt's "Raw Spirit" book, I still came away with some AWESOME take homes…
Here they are….
1. It's not about going 100% right off the bat…unless you are under life threatening circumstances you should do what you can do successfully, even if that is simply cutting out enriched flour products and refined sugar and adding in a green smoothies every day.
2.The biggest health improvements come from not what you ADD but what you ELIMINATE COMPLETELY! e.g. white flour products, sugar, and factory farm animal products.
3.Never get into a bath with a dog that has canine scabies!!!! (what a story that was!)
4. From Angela: Tip on transitioning – Make everything you eat that's sweet from this day forth RAW (fruit, honey, agave, chocolate, etc.)
5. From Angela: BE THE CHANGE and lead by your own actions without pushing your ideas on anyone who doesn't want to hear about it. When people ask you a question about raw food, answer only THAT question without going on a long diatribe where you overwhelm and therefore, totally lose them. Let them be their OWN change!
6. You CAN rejuvenate a "non functioning" or "underfunctioning" thyroid. Angela did it…(as well as losing over 150 lbs!) now thyroid numbers are normal WITHOUT medication.
7. GROW YOUR OWN!!!!
PLUS…My observation of them while staying at home…They Work HARD…they stay focused on their mission.
It was an inspiration for me to more CLEARLY develop and communicate the Core Wellness mission, which which led to the new "Crossed Posture Syndrome" clickable picture on the right of this page.
You MUST become aware of this stress induced muscle imbalance and learn how to reverse it or pay the painful consequences sooner or later! My mission is to bring some much needed pain relief and inner calm to your body by making you aware of this damaging stress induced posture pattern and give you the fundamentals on how to correct it!
I'm so grateful that Matt contacted me to make this experience happen and look forward to learning and teaching more about the scientific reasons why raw food and a predominantly plant based conscious diet can transform cellular health and take your body back in time!
Good form and deep core stability is key for successful fat burning exercise
The first thing and most important factor for weight loss is, of course, to get your body moving. But just the thought of exercise can send some people running (or limping) to the hills!
You may have your reasons…sometimes they’re emotional (made fun of for lack of athleticism in school), and sometimes they’re about the time it takes (just don’t have any!).
But the biggest reason I hear is because SOMETHING HURTS! “I started yoga and hurt my back”, “I did turbo-kick and my hip started hurting”, “I started Curves and my shoulders started hurting“.
I’ve heard ‘em all, just about. And it’s a shame, because if you can exercise effectively you can burn fat like crazy!
For instance…There’s a lot of proof that high intensity interval training (HIIT) can burn up to 9 times as much fat per calorie expended during exercise. WHY?
Because the high intensity stuff builds more lean muscle which consumes/burns more fat. BUT…the whole “high intensity” thing also brings up a common problem…INJURIES that lead to inability to do anything!
The fact is…without good biomechanics, even slow and easyaerobic exercise (which I still whole heartedly recommend despite all the “cardio myth” propaganda) will eventually cause breakdown. So when you turbo boost the intensity you’re really asking for it! Which brings me to…
TIP #1: You MUST Use Good Form And Have Good Core Strength Before Doing ANY Kind Of Exercise.
What do I mean? I mean focus on FORM is everything! And I’m not just talking about “keeping your shoulders back” or “pulling your belly button to your spine!
I’m talking about moving like you were designed to move! Strain free, efficient movement IS the design as long as your posture developed normally without any neurological conditions or blocked joints.
But therein lies the “snafu”…
According to Professor Voigta’s clinical research in Prague, (Pr. Voigta has passed but his predecessor, Pavel Kolar, has stood on his shoulders and taken the “developmental kinesiology” model to new heights)up to 1/3 of children do NOT develop normally and therefore develop movement patterns that don’t allow for the strain free efficiency that the majority of people have the capacity to easily accomplish.
How can you tell if you or your children are part of the 1/3 that missed out on some good postural development and need to pay some special attention to re-awakening the deep core stability system?
I’ve posted a couple of “self test” videos below (from our soon to be released DVD and multi-media program) to see if you’re at risk for crossed posture syndrome or deep core amnesia.
The new DVD will reveal how you can reverse damaging posture patterns that lead to injury and early breakdown while re-awakening your “youth and renewal” system.
